Pangandoy sa Panganod is a countryside film that follows the story of a 15 year-old boy full of high hopes that one day he will reach the skyline and soar to his dreams. Buknoy (Michael Ancheta) shares his dreams and ambitions to Kiko (James Carl Aries), his younger brother who is suffering from multiple illnesses. Buknoy was then torn apart by missing the opportunity to fulfil his dreams when his mother nang Diding (Princess Kentana Macabuat) who fails to understand what he wants, stops him from going to school due to financial problems and his brother’s disability and instead forced him to work. It highlights one of the biggest problems of youth empowerment in the country, where adolescents are forced to work for their own good, risking their health and crushing their dreams of a bright future.

The AHYD Film Festival is a short film competition organized by the Commission on Population Region XII which aims to develop the talent and skills of the adolescents in the field of film making. At the same time, it is also one way of conveying the major challenges encountered by the youth through the films they produce. The theme for the 2nd Regional AHYD Film Festival is Kabataan, Kalikasan, Kalusugan: Magkaugnay.

Pangandoy sa Panganod will be Region XII’s film entry for the National AHYD Film Festival which will be held on December 7, 2016 tentatively at the UP Film Theatre, UP Film Institute, Quezon City.
