World Population Day 2022: Local leaders, partners to tap potential of Filipinas, young Pinoys

The global population is projected to reach eight billion on 15 November 2022, according to the World Population Prospects 2022 released on Monday by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
Latest projections by the United Nations suggest that the global population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.4 billion in 2100. More than half of the estimated increase in global population up to 2050 will be concentrated in just eight countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Philippines.
Many groups may meet this announcement with alarmism: fears that the world is on the verge of a disastrous overpopulation that may result in extreme poverty, conflict, or adverse environmental impacts. However, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) calls on countries to expand their perspective beyond the numbers.
